Elena Marci-Boehncke from the Department of Geography presented innovative approaches to integrating remote sensing into German classrooms at the Global Moon Village Symposium 2024 in Luxembourg. 29. November 2024 – OER4SDI - Teaching material for students is available
For two years, a project team from Bochum and Münster developed materials on the subject of geoinformation processing for the training of students. The result is a structured collection for students of geoinformatics, geodesy, geomatics and related subjects. The Open Educational Resources (OER) are available for download.

The 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) took place in Milan from October 14-18, 2024. With a total of 7,200 abstracts submitted, this is the world's largest conference in the field of space science. Every year, the world's largest government space agencies, private aerospace companies and universities come together to discuss new missions and the latest research and development.

11. Juli 2024 – COINS Annual Meeting - Progress in the sustainable intensification of cultivation methods in West Africa through interdisciplinary project work
From 26 to 28 June, representatives of the cooperation partners exchanged initial results of the project launched in October 2023 at a hybrid meeting at the Centre for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn. The project is structured into three pillars: "Targeting," "Enabling," and "Advising," with the latter led by Dr. Valerie Graw (AG Remote Sensing). A key strength of the project lies in its transdisciplinary research approach, which equally involves local actors, and in the integration of various modeling approaches. Yield modeling, economic modeling, and spatial modeling aim to highlight options for action and allow for risk assessments.

09. Juli 2024 – Institute of Geography at the 43rd EARSeL Symposium 2024 in Manchester, Great Britain
This year's 43rd EARSeL Symposium took place in Manchester from 17 to 20 June 2024. The symposium was organised at Manchester Metropolitan University with the support of ESA. With over 200 scientific contributions on the current state of Earth observation with remote sensing, participants were able to exchange ideas on a wide range of topics.

10. Juni 2024 – ESERO at the Week of the Environment - Report from Bellevue Palace
On 4 and 5 June 2024, the Week of the Environment took place in the garden of Bellevue Palace in Berlin at the invitation of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). Together with more than 190 exhibitors from business and technology, research and science as well as civil society, we as ESERO Germany were selected to present our activities in STEM education in relation to climate change and future-oriented education.

09. Juni 2024 – Überlasst den Weltraum nicht den Milliardären - der Satellitendaten Workshop auf der re:publica
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. To help young people tackle it, the German Informatics Society in Berlin and the universities of Paderborn and Bochum launched the Climate Data Entrepreneurial Club (CDEC) pilot project on 1 June 2023. Students can acquire expertise in computer science, earth observation and entrepreneurship in order to initiate and prototype their own sustainability projects. At re:publica - Europe's largest conference on the digital society - around 30 participants were able to learn the basics of working with satellite data as part of a workshop on 27 May 2024 and then explore a freely selected region with regard to various climatic parameters following a number of demos.
