International scientific visit from Simone Kotthaus

On the 19th and 20th November, Dr. Simone Kotthaus from the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace in Paris visited the Urban Climate working group. During her stay, she gave an exciting presentation on the atmospheric boundary layers of cities and their consequences for pollution dispersion inside the city in the joint colloquium of Biogeography and Climatology. Innovative methods to observe the height of the atmospheric boundary layer were presented with their advantages and disadvantages. The height of the atmospheric boundary layer varies by season and the subsequent consequences of that variation on pollution dispersion were presented as main results in the colloquium. The talk was followed by a lively discussion about her work and future research on this topic.
