On March 21st, the German side of the IMECOGIP team, that cocreate EnhancES, an innovative toolbox designed to assess, map, and enhance ecosystem services in metropolitan areas, visited Qingdao. The team was warmly welcomed by the Qingdao Survey and Mapping Institute (QSMI) and Prof. DONG Nannan from Tongji University.

The afternoon was filled with site visits, including a newly established waterfront park which will replace traditional salt extraction techniques. The visit was followed by a productive meeting with QSMI leaders and municipal representatives to discuss the application of EnhancES for green infrastructure planning in the district.

In the afternoon, the team visited a former alkaline factory site and participated in a conference at QSMI headquarters, engaging with around 60 experts and scholars to discuss research, plan procedures  and explore opportunities for optimization.

The trip to Qingdao was a follow-up to EnhancES training workshops in Bochum and Qingdao in 2024. A cooperation agreement between QSMI and the IMECOGIP project was established last year.
