Between 11-15 December 2017, three members of our Institute successfully attended the 9th Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) conference in Shenzhen, China. More than 400 delegates from 49 different countries joined the discussion around the main topic of the conference: "Ecosystem Services for Eco-civilization: Restoring connections between people and landscapes through nature-based solutions". Prof Dr. Harald Zepp hosted a session entitled "Ecosystem Services assessments and trade-offs. Methods and indicators for spatial planning". He gave an oral presentation entitled "Ecosystem services framework as a tool to assess environmental trade-offs and synergies". Dr. Luis Inostroza chaired four sessions, "Urban Ecosystem Services and Sustainable Urban Development", "Green and Blue Infrastructure ecosystem condition and ecosystem services delivery along urban/rural gradient", respectively. Also, Dr. Inostroza gave two oral presentations: "Integrating ecosystem services supply potential from future land-use scenarios in protected area management: insights from Bangladesh" and "Indicators for Cultural Ecosystem Services in urban contexts: a critical review for urban planning", respectively. Richard Lemoine (Msc) gave a presentation entitled: "Urban heat islands: research methods and indicators for ecosystem services trade-off analysis". During the conference excursion, participants were introduced to green infrastructure development in Shenzhen, visiting several new green developments, including restored wetlands and urban parks.
