At the end of May, Iain Stewart delivered a guest lecture as part of the Colloquium of the AG Climatology and Biogeography, titled "The Heat Island Classics and their Relevance to Modern Urban Climate ". Known as the founder of Local Climate Zones (LCZ), Stewart took the audience on a journey through the history of urban climate research, focusing on the relevance of historical insights in the context of current methods and research fields. Prior to the lecture, Iain Stewart had already taught the "Urban Climates" course as part of the RePIC Master's program.
The colloquium lecture attracted a diverse audience, including international guests, representatives from the Faculty of Biology, and regional stakeholders such as the City of Dortmund, the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR), the Emschergenossenschaft, and the German Weather Service (DWD).
The evening concluded with a cozy outdoor BBQ. Despite the rain, the atmosphere was pleasant, underscoring once again the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in addressing urban challenges.
