In order to develop future nighttime light Earth Observation missions, simulated scenes and data retrieval algorithms are needed to test instrument concepts. The "Processing components for Artificial Nighttime Light Remote Sensing" (PALAN) project will provide night light scenes at both bottom (BOA) and top of atmosphere (TOA), as well as prototype algorithms to retrieve BOA radiances from TOA signals. The project is a collaboration between the night lights group at RUB, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Stars4all, Telesazio, and Airbus Defence and Space.
