The EO College 2028 project is developing and expanding an open digital learning environment for satellite-based Earth observation. Earth observation data is becoming increasingly important for climate research, environmental monitoring, disaster management and sustainable development. At the same time, there remain significant barriers to entry for learners, teachers and professional users, as access to data, analytical tools and methodological knowledge is complex.
The aim of the project is to expand an integrated digital educational infrastructure that combines open educational resources, structured training programmes and practical analysis environments. Building on the existing EO College platform, learning modules, training formats and community offerings will be further developed and made accessible internationally. A particular focus is on the development of new digital support structures for learning processes. These include a structured knowledge architecture for the systematic organisation of Earth observation knowledge, as well as AI-supported assistance functions that help learners navigate complex data and analysis environments. In addition, international training formats are being developed, including within the context of the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters. This will support professionals and institutions worldwide in the use of Earth observation data in crisis and disaster situations.
The project strengthens capacity-building in the use of Earth observation data and promotes knowledge transfer between research, education and practical application.
