The CDEC academy project builds on the previous successes of the Climate Data Entrepreneurial Club (CDEC) and aims to integrate learning modules on climate and satellite data into school curricula in a sustainable manner. The focus is on two central measures: On the one hand, a digital and hybrid training program is being developed for teachers of geography and computer science. This modular training program imparts the knowledge necessary to successfully use the CDEC modules in the classroom. It can be used flexibly and promotes networking among participating teachers.
Second, the implementation of the training courses and the use of the modules are scientifically monitored and evaluated. Feedback from teachers and detailed studies at selected schools provide insights into conditions for success and opportunities for optimization. In the long term, the plan is to integrate the CDEC academy into existing training structures and make it accessible nationwide as an open educational resource (OER) to enable broad use and scalability.
The project raises awareness among teachers, students, and the general public about geographical, scientific, and (geo)information-based issues and solutions. Practical application examples demonstrate the potential of high-resolution and repeated Earth observation for analyzing the consequences of climate change, adaptation strategies, and climate protection. In this way, the CDEC academy contributes to the training of highly qualified specialists for the Earth observation and space industry and draws students' attention to space travel as an attractive career field at an early stage.
