Valentin Klaus visited the "Terrassenfriedhof" cemetery model plots of the BUND group in Essen with Master's students as part of the course "Mit dem Methodenkoffer auf dem Berufsweg: Spezialisierungen in der Ökologie". The flowering meadows were created by the local environmental NGO to compare different strategies for the restoration and management of biodiverse meadows. Martin Kaiser, member of the NGO, explained the development of the plots as well as the various structural elements, such as sandaria and insect hotels, with which the location is equipped.

The students also learned more about the plants and animals in the area. Botanist Sabine Hurck taught them how to identify and recognize the grasses. She explained the characteristics of the wild meadow and carried out a stand height measurement with the students. Dietmar Schruck was also on site with the "Rollassel" educational project's cargo bike.

We would like to thank the BUND group in Essen for their invitation and their elaborate and informative presentation. Click here for the article about our visit on the association's website.
