New instruments at RGS

10. May 2013

At our Rudolf-Geiger site we now have a radiation balance sensor. The instrument consists of a pair of pyranometers (one looking up, the other down), measuring shortwave radiation, and a pair of pyrgeometers (also one up, one down), for longwave radiation. In this way, we can determine albedo (reflected shortwave as a fraction of incoming shortwave) and total radiation balance (what comes down minus what goes up). The instrument's data have already been incorporated into our weather page.
