Spatial Planning I:
The students have knowledge of the concepts and organisational structures of spatial planning in Germany as well as their legal foundations and planning responsibilities. Spatial planning in the federal territory, regional planning with a focus on NRW and urban land use planning are taught. Environmental concerns and specialised spatial planning supplement the knowledge in areas relevant to the occupational field.
Spatial Planning II:
The students have a theoretical and methodological frame of reference for the analysis of planning systems and planning processes at different spatial scale levels and in different social contexts. They can adequately argue for the necessity of an analysis of planning processes based on institutional and action theory. They are familiar with the history of planning in Germany since industrialisation and know the strategies, programmes, instruments, procedures and projects with which urban and regional planning in Germany is currently responding to the challenges of economic, demographic, ecological and value-related change. They also have broad knowledge of participatory planning procedures and are familiar with the challenges that arise in the application of special planning instruments and the implementation of large-scale urban development projects for approaches to cooperative and communicative planning.
