In the research project WiMBo (Wildlife Monitoring in Bochum), we investigate which wild animals move through the city, where they are most commonly found, and at what times they are active. Using wildlife cameras, we record species such as foxes, hedgehogs, raccoons, martens, and badgers at various locations throughout the urban area.
The goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of how wild animals use urban spaces and where conflicts between humans and wildlife may occur. By identifying such conflicts early, appropriate protection and preventive measures can be developed for both the wildlife and the residents of Bochum.
Our research helps make biodiversity in urban areas more visible and provides a solid foundation for environmentally friendly and wildlife-compatible urban planning.
