As part of the seminar “Gardens as Social-Ecological Spaces” taught by Simon Mösch and Michael Herre, we recently welcomed Rebecca Rongstock from Freie Universität Berlin and the Blühender Campus initiative as a guest speaker.
In her presentation, she introduced a range of measures aimed at enhancing biodiversity on the university campus and highlighted the important role that urban green spaces can play in species conservation. She provided fascinating insights into current projects designed to improve the ecological value of the campus, including newly installed kestrel nesting boxes, hedgehog tunnels, and wildlife-proof waste bins.
The talk offered students a valuable perspective on the practical implementation of biodiversity promotion in urban environments and stimulated discussion about the ecological enhancement of green spaces, whose potential often remains underutilized.
