Outline

  • Four sessions with seven parts in two days:
    1. The Ruhr metropolis
    2. Urban development – global and regional perspectives
    3. Structural change in the Ruhr
    4. Brownfields in Germany and NRW
    5. Tourism, culture and leisure: New industries in old buildings
    6. 30 hectares goal: Strategies, instruments, and results
    7. Housing on brownfields & investors’ perspective
  • Two full-day field trips by bus: Bochum and the Ruhr Region
  • Half of the group are students from the U.S.
  • Assignments for German participants:
    • One meeting in advance
    • Preparation of the comments and preparation of a part of the field trips
    • Report incl. discussion results
