Auf der diesjährigen European Regional Science Association (ERSA), vom 26.-29. August in St. Petersburg, moderierte Verena Ast vom Geographischen Institut der RUB als Vorsitzende Vorträge zum Themenkomplex "Social segregation, poverty and social policy in space". Darüber hinaus konnte sie sich mit dem Vortrag "Poverty and poverty alleviation in globalised cities" mit ihrem Promotionsvorhaben im internationalen Forschungsfeld positionieren.
