The aim of the module according to §4(4) of the study regulations is to gain experience outside the study program, i.e. in practice, and to make it fruitful for the study program.
The internship of 10 full-time weeks (400 working hours) can be carried out in professional practice outside the university or in science, namely in research. During the internship, the scientific knowledge and skills acquired during the studies are practically applied.
Professional internships include relevant activities in
Urban and regional planning and development
economic and tourism promotion
Transportation and logistics
Housing and real estate development
brownfield recycling and contaminated site management
Neighborhood, urban and regional marketing and management
Public relations, information, documentation and moderation
and other areas, whereby these can be public institutions or companies in the private sector, intermediary organizations or associations. In addition to the internship itself, the acquisition of a suitable internship position is part of the work to be completed in the module.
A research internship can be carried out in a research institution outside the Department of Geography, either as a block or during the course of study, depending on the requirements. The goal is to gain first-hand experience in project practice, including the proposal and acquisition phases. A research internship is particularly suitable for students who wish to pursue a doctorate after the Master's examination.
