The participants can deal with databases and create them. Furthermore, they can build their own program controls through programming. Building on this, the participants will be able to adapt and extend the range of functions of ESRI's ArcGIS software beyond the possibilities of the user interface through their own programming.
The basic knowledge of desktop GIS acquired in the bachelor's program is expanded. The module includes an introduction to relational database modeling and design using MS Access, an introduction to programming using VBA with MS Access, and programming custom functionality in ESRI ArcGIS. The following topics are covered: data modeling, database design, form control, programming, Microsoft Access, ArcObjects.
Seminar
The teaching of methodological skills through practical exercises (partly using special software) as well as through the joint elaboration of theory-based findings in scientific discourse require the regular attendance of the students at the seminar sessions (with a maximum of 2 absences).
Application of the acquired knowledge in a project-oriented term paper

Mandatory module within the M.Sc. program in Geography, specialization in Geomatics; Elective module within the other M.Sc. specializations.
