Focus of activity

Christoph Dankers currently works part-time on his PhD dissertation at the PLACES Lab at RUB. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Christian Albert he explores scenarios for the future development of wadi landscapes in Riyadh/Saudi Arabia and the potential effects of these scenarios on the provision of selected sets of ecosystem services. More specifically, the objectives of this research are: • to assess the significance of Riyadh’s wadi systems for the provision of ecosystems services • to identify and quantify key ecosystems services and their supply and demand ratio • to investigate the impacts of alternative land use/land cover options on the wadi’s capacities to provide selected ecosystems services Furthermore, Christoph is a partner at Bödeker Landscape Architects, where he mainly works on the design and implementation of wadi restoration strategies in Saudi Arabia.
