ENLIGHT

ENabling the anaLysis of Global urban HeaT

The overreaching goal of the project is to develop a consistent and generic methodology that enables globally consistent analysis of urban heat islands worldwide. This is done via satellite earth observation and crowdsourcing. ENLIGHT is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG, No. 437467569).

  • ENLIGHT addresses both the global urban data gap and its integration into climate management at global, regional and urban scales.
  • Final products shall be freely available for further research

Global Urban Database

Development of a global Local Climate Zone map

Work Package 1

Thermal Database

Development of an urban thermal effect database

Work Package 2

UHI Assessment

Assessment of the urban heat island characteristics of cities

Work Package 3

Urban Modelling

Evaluation of urban modelling tools

Work Package 4

The content, scale and extent of the project, in particular the global urban database, is closely linked to the World Urban Database and Access Portal Tool WUDAPT [1]. Its co-design can lead to synergies and increased functionality, resulting in an up-scaling of urban climate solutions.
