The climatology section is a field measurement course within the module Measuring and Modelling I. It provides practice-oriented methods for urban climatological data collection and analysis through an intensive measurement campaign in an urban environment.
The course focuses on the independent implementation of climate measurements within the city area. Working in small groups, students plan and carry out a time-limited measurement campaign addressing different urban climatological research questions and measurement approaches. The measurements are conducted depending on weather conditions and therefore require flexible field organization.
The course combines preparatory theoretical sessions with practical fieldwork and a structured analysis of the collected data. The results are finally prepared and presented in the form of a scientific poster presentation.
Course contents include:
The course is one of several selectable applications within the module and places a strong emphasis on the practical measurement of climatic processes. Its objective is to develop methodological skills in climatological fieldwork and to analyze and communicate measurement data in a scientifically sound manner.
