Exposé

An exposé is very helpful for finding a topic and designing a thesis. The relevance of the selected topic should be explained in an exposé and the methodical procedure should also be described. An exposé is structured as follows:

  • cover sheet
  • introduction
  • question
  • methodology
  • outline
  • time schedule
  • bibliography

On the cover sheet you will find all important information about yourself (name, email), the title of your work, the date and the desired first supervisor.

The introduction serves to derive the topic. The current state of research should be shown here and research gaps should be pointed out. The problem can be derived from this. Relevant scientific literature should be cited in the introduction. In addition, the motivation and relevance of the topic should be made clear here.

The introduction is followed by a discussion of the topic of her thesis. In this part, you formulate research questions and set up hypotheses that are to be answered in your thesis.

In the next step, the methodical procedure is presented. This includes the definition and description of the investigation area and the investigation period, the data basis (data source or recording methods) for their evaluation and the evaluation methods (statistical methods, laboratory tests, etc.). In the case of your own data collection, the method of data collection (measurement campaign, mapping, etc.) should be briefly explained in the methodology. Relevant scientific literature can also be cited here.

The methodology is followed by a preliminary structure of the thesis.

In the schedule, you make it clear how you want to process your idea in the given time. To do this, list in a table which work step you want to carry out in which time frame. Use the provided Gantt templates for this.

Finally, address the resources needed and the risks.

All sources from the introduction and the methodology are listed in the bibliography.

Here you will find the templates for creating an exposé and a work plan
