The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is a university with a high academic variety which unites the professional spectrum of the social sciences about the engineer's sciences up to the natural sciences and the medicine on her campus. The RUB is strongly linked up by partner universities and varied international and national research cooperations. In addition the RUB is strongly regional anchored at the same time by cooperation with other colleges and research facilities in the Ruhr area as well as with the regional economy in.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum was founded in 1965 and has actual more than 36,000 students in 147 study courses. In 20 faculties and in the head office of the Rub approximately 5,500 employees are occupied. Insofar the RUB is not only one of the biggest research universities but also one of the biggest universities in Germany in general. The RUB has developed a corporate vision notably “universitas”. Corresponding to this corporate Vision and in dependence on the bologna process the RUB has, as the first big university in Germany, let over their “Magister”-study courses and their diploma study courses comprehensive into consecutive bachelor and master studies courses.

The city of Bochum

The city of Bochum in which the RUB is located can be found in the centre of the `Ruhr Area´. With about 367.000 inhabitants Bochum is one of the greatest towns in the `Ruhr Area´ as well as in Northrhine-Westfalia. Bochum´s development is strongly connected to the increase and likewise the decline of coal mining and steel production.
