Learning outcome:

Students will have the opportunity to learn either german (Tongji students) or chinese (RUB students) corresponding up to at least European language level A 2 or equivalent.

European language level A 1 or equivalent:

Understanding (Chinese/German):

Students

  • can understand familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
  • can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help

Speaking (Chinese/German):

Students

  • can use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
  • can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has

Writing (German):

Students can write simple isolated phrases and sentences

Understanding (Chinese/German):

Students

  • can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance
  • can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements
  • can read very short, simple texts
  • can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material
  • can understand short simple personal letters

Speaking(Chinese/German):

Students

  • can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities
  • can handle very short social exchanges
  • can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms their educational background

Writing (Chinese/German):

Students

  • can write short, simple notes and messages
  • can write short simple personal letters

Contents:

Chinese Language Courses/German Language Courses: competence oriented language course teaches communication in every-day-life situations at the university. By means of effective communication and compensation strategies formal as well as informal dialogs are trained and deepened (simple questions and answers, exchange of information, reaction upon statements)

Teaching methods:
seminar work supported by eLearning elements and learning in tandem
Mode of assessment:
course attendance and active participation, preparatory and follow up work for classes, final written examination
Conditions for granting credit points:
The mode of examination will be one final written examination.
Weight of the mark for the final score:
The weight of the mark equals the CP of the module.
