Planning Metropolitan Landscapes (PLACES)

The Planning Metropolitan Landscapes (PLACES) lab aims to deliver excellence in teaching and research in the field of environmental analysis and planning to support transformations of metropolitan regions towards attaining the goals of sustainable development.

Our research results advance scientific understandings of theories, methods, strategies and impacts of environmental planning to support decision-makers, practitioners and stakeholders to make better-informed decisions in the governance of natural resources in metropolitan regions.

Our work is rooted in the fields of landscape ecology and environmental planning, integrative across scales from sites to metropolitan regions, and inherently inter- and transdisciplinary by involving diverse knowledge holders from science and practice.
