Learning Goals

Introductory overview of contents and typical questions of climatology and biogeography. Acquisition of basic knowledge and correlations from these sub-areas and their linkage in landscape-ecological processes and structures on different scale levels (scientific competence). Handling of fundamental physical-geographical recording and measuring procedures (methodological competence). Reactivation of basic physical knowledge and practice-oriented introduction to the diversity and systematics of vascular plants.

Contents
  • Lecture climatology: energy and radiation balance, water cycle, clouds, wind systems and global circulation.
  • Biogeography lecture: range science, ecology of plants and animals, temporal and spatial dynamics of biocenoses
  • Botanical identification exercise: basic knowledge of species of the native flora, independent use of dichotomous identification keys, association and site relationships of plants.
  • Seminar biogeography: Vegetation survey and site characterization, flora and vegetation of urban sites
  • Seminar climatology: analysis and evaluation of climate data
Teaching methods

Learning on the concrete object and practicing survey and analysis methods in the field require compulsory attendance in the botanical identification exercises and in the biogeography seminar.

Lecture, exercises with excursions, seminar with field practicum

Mode of assessment

Written exam (120 min.); weighting of the subareas: Climatology 50%, Biogeography 50%

Additional Information

Conditions for granting credit points

three passed course credits (climatology, biogeography, botany), passed written exam

Usage of the module
Mandatory module in the B.Sc. degree program

Stellenwert der Note für die Endnote
